30th Anniversary of Palazzo Spinelli

It was an important birthday for Italian private education system. Palazzo Spinelli was the first Italian Institution to obtain the official authorization for vocational training. We fought for many years against misguided institutions and various lobbies which tried in vain to destroy our school. We won our war for a free school which is a right guaranteed by our Constitution Act.In 30 years we have educated 4000 young restorers and we have made free of charge more of 12000 restoration treatments. Today, as well as being recognised by Regione Toscana system of vocational training and continuing our mission in the Cultural Heritage System, we are able, thanks to our experience and our strong didactic competences to educate our students at the maximum level to the work of restorer of artistic manufacts.

30 years of Spinelli, addicted to art, to preserve the Cultural Heritage in every corner of the world!

But what about the future? Where does the restoration go in Italy and in the rest of the world? We think that only a new discovery of the environmental themes could produce a true renovation of the world of the work. We have millions of square metres of surfaces to be restored; Hundreds of thousand of art manufacts located in deposits or churches which are waiting for public or private investments which could preserve them from degradation. We have to clean and rehabilitate seas and lands. There will be a great future for restoration themes and for the young generation of restorers. The nations had to invest in this sector and in environmental projects. It is the only way to avoid other problems in this difficult period of crisis. Palazzo Spinelli wants to pass this birthday strenghtening its will to face new challenges, sharing its know how with all the young, giving them, together with its partners and the city of Florence, an example in order to convince them to study, work hard and wait for the best chance to change the world.

1978-2008
The Institute was officially created on march 23th 1978 in Santa Maria al Monte (Pisa) and its laboratories were placed in the historical building of Palazzo Spinelli in Borgo Santa Croce 10 in Florence.
The members who subscribed as founders the foundation act were:
Francesco Amodei, who had the idea of the Institute on 1976 and who is at present the President
Mauro Buffi, who died on 1999, International Relations Reponsible
Domenico Cancellieri, who is now the Director of the Institute Michelangelo
Giuseppe Furferi, who is at present the President of the Association Palazzo Spinelli No Profit.

1977
On October the 3th 1977 was opened, thanks to the work of Francesco Amodei e Giuseppe Furferi, in Borgo degli Albizi 10, in the premises of ICON, the first experimental course of restoration of ancient woods with 8 students coming from many international countries.

1976
On September 26th 1976 was created in Incisa Valdarno (Florence) the first Institute which was completely devoted to the vocational training in the field of restoration.
